What's New for 2023?

The Grand Wagoneer L is joining the lineup this year. This version increases the model's wheelbase by seven inches and is a foot longer. As expected, these extensions increase the model cabin and cargo areas and come with a new engine to accommodate the size. The new Hurricane engine, a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six, produces 510 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque.

The Grand Wagoneer is sold in three distinct trim levels:

Performance

With the new Grand Wagoneer L's introduction comes a new engine dubbed the Hurricane. This powertrain puts out an impressive 510 hp and 500 pound-feet of torque from a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six. This engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. As for the base model, this trim is powered by a 471-hp 6.4-liter V-8 and also has an eight-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive.

While the EPA rates the inline-six engine to get about 14 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway, the long-wheelbase L model drops the highway rating by 1 to 19 mpg. Though even with that slight dip, those numbers are still better than the base engine V-8 engine, which is rated at 13/18 mpg.

Cargo Room

As you'd expect from a large SUV, the Grand Wagoneer boasts ample cargo space. Behind the third row, the cargo area measures 27 cubic feet, and with the seats folded, the area is expanded and measures 71 cubic feet behind the second row. On the Grand Wagoneer L, the area behind the third row measures 44 cubic feet and 89 cubic feet, with the second row of seats folded flat.

Interior & Technology

Though the Grand Wagoneer has standard seating for eight, the second-row bench can be replaced with a pair of captain's chairs, reducing the seating capacity to seven.

As the luxury version of the regular Wagoneer, the Grand Wagoneer's cabin is also full of elegant design choices, such as genuine wood accents and various high-end features. Along with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and customizable ambient interior lighting, this luxury model also features a head-up display, a camera-fed rear-view mirror, and a rear-seat monitoring system that displays a video feed onto the central touchscreen.

The central touchscreen, a 12-inch monitor, is a multifaceted infotainment system that's standard with a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Sitting below this screen, though, is a 10.3-inch monitor which controls the HVAC system. And though every Grand Wagoneer has a powerful McIntosh stereo, the Series II & Series get a more powerful audio unit with 23 speakers.

Safety Features

Not only is the Grand Wagoneer outfitted with great technology, but it's also available with an equally wide array of advanced driver-aids. These include adaptive cruise control, a self-parking function, and a 360-degree surround-view system. Higher trims offer driver attention warning, traffic sign recognition, and a digital rear-view mirror.
